Accessing the messages the held by our body is profound. Somatic messages provide insight into ourselves and reconnect us to our ancestors. Trusting the body's somatic guidance leads us to a deeper connection revealing layers of understanding that go beyond mere words. Accessing our somatic wisdom is different for everyone. Some of our methods are outlined below.
We need each other. The systems of colonialism oppress all of us. The path toward liberation is the counter-narrative of relationship, responsibility, reciprocity, and respect; the 4 R's of Indigenous Ways of Knowing and Being. And love. Lots of love.
The land and all that is connected to the land it our path toward liberation. We build relations with our plant relatives to heal. Plant walks and plants talks are the medicine that strengthens our root.
Music-making is vibration. Vibration connects us to the earth and each other. I could tell you that recent scientific research validates how rhythm can change brain patterns so that humans can be more receptive to empathy, creativity, collaboration, empowerment, listening, and joy. But, our ancestors already knew that since time immemorial.
When we feel safe to express our body in a way that feels good we can access our body's messages and process pain and experience joy. Movement looks and feels different for everyone, so it is necessary to explore what resonates with our own body.
Engaging in clay play creates a juncture between the physical earth and our somatic sensations, enabling us to fully embrace the present moment. By integrating clay play with challenging conversations, individuals are supported in accessing their somatic sensations that emerge, thereby initiating the healing journey.
